News from the Tour of California by
Brian C. Grenier
Again it was another day where the peloton was dominated
by Discovery Channel and the major Tour teams. It was just
amazing to watch total control and domination. It wasn’t a
sure thing with O’Grady off the front and in a powerful
group, but the control that they (Discovery Channel) imposed
on the peloton helped reel in the breakaway, but the catch
didn’t happen again today until just before the finish.
With
the run to the line ending up in a field sprint JJ Haedo
came out of nowhere to snatch the win!
Leiphiemer's
leaders yellow jersey is safe again - for today! There were
a lot of technical difficulties coming out of California
but we did the best we could to gather the play by play
action. Tomorrow however you are on your own as yours truly
has his own race to show up at with a newly upgraded license!

JJ
Haedo takes the stage for CSC as Discovery Channel are put
under some serious pressure
The
CSC set out today to put as much pressure on the Discovery
Channel in the hope of cracking them, disposing Levi Leipheimer
and taking over control of the races lead.
All
day the CSC team were on the attack, Bobby Julich, Jens
Voigt and Stuart O'Grady who was a member of the lead group
for much of the stage, holding the virtual yellow jersey
on the road.
Once
again though the Discovery Channel team did manage to pull
back the leaders and successfully keep their leader Leipheimer
safe for another day. And that other day is the last day.
Only a short 124.7 kilometer circuit race to contend around
the streets of Long Beach.
No
doubt CSC will once again be on the attack but will Discovery
Channel be strong enough to defend the lead of their rider?
Only time will tell...

Petacchi
wins again and moves into the overall lead with only one
stage remaining
Italy's
Alessandro Petacchi has done it again! He won stage 4 of
the Volta ao Algarve beating fellow countryman Davide Rebellin
riding for the German Gerolsteiner team.
In
taking the stage win Petacchi moved into the overall lead
0'10" ahead of Astana rider René Haselbacher with Discovery
Channel's Tomas Vaitkus third a further 0'02" behind.
The
race concludes tomorrow with a 185.6 kilometer stage from
Vila Do Bispo to Portimão. Can Petacchi defend his lead
and win the Volta ao Algarve 2007?.
